Isa: Dua of His Companions

Dua of the disciples of Isa

Accepting and witnessing the truth is an essential aspect of our faith in Islam, when we give the two testimonies in Islam, we witness and profess the truth of the religion and that makes us Muslims. We continue to repeat the testimonies for as long as we live to renew and establish our faith firmly. The companions of Isa(as) during their time also accepted, witnessed and professed the truth of their faith in Allah(swt), Isa(as) as a Prophet and the message he brought with him from Allah(swt). This dua is their legacy and we follow their footsteps in witnessing the truth of our faith.

Musa: Repenting to Allah

Moses dua for repentance

If Allah were to punish us for every sin we commit in this life, absolutely no one will be free of punishment. But Allah so merciful is oft-forgiving most Merciful. Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, “When Allah had finished His creation, He wrote over his Throne: ‘My mercy preceded My Anger.’  Sahih Bukhari (Book:93, Hadith:518).

The story of Musa (as) is full of lessons for the heedful. Even as a Prophet, he was not above mistake and certainly not above the human intrigues that seeks to bring you down. In a bid to support his kinsmen, he fought and killed an opponent by mistake. He realised his mistake, immediately, he repented and seek the forgiveness from Allah. “He said, “My Lord, indeed I have wronged myself, so forgive me,” and He forgave him. Indeed, He is the Forgiving, the Merciful.”(Al-Qassas-Q28:16).

Musa: Invoking Allah for Confidence

Moses Dua for confidence in speech.

Have you ever felt like you are heading to a battle front, when you have had to meet with certain people in your life? Have you been so so frightened that you can hardly make a sound when you find yourself in the presence of certain individuals? Have you ever found it exceedingly difficult to say your mind and your truth when you are speaking to certain people because of the amount of power they exert over you? If you answer yes to any of these, you certainly are not the only one. Many people does, even the Prophets were not exempted from this feeling of dread.

That brings us to the story of Musa(as) and Fir’aun in the Quran. Infact, the most oft-repeated story in the Quran has to do with Musa, Fir’aun and the Bani Israil.  Musa(as) have had to face Fir’aun and deliver the message of Allah(swt) to him. He had to tell Fir’aun to worship Allah without associating partners with Him. He had to tell Fir’aun to let the Bani Israil free from his bondage. He had to warn Fir’aun of the impending punishment from Allah(swt) if he does not accept the message.

Alas, Musa(as) was raised from a baby to adulthood in the household of Fir’aun, he committed a crime in the land of Fir’aun and ran away to Midyan. Musa had a speech impediment, he does not speak coherently enough for people to understand him properly. Upon that he will be facing the most dreadful tyrant on the land with a message he certainly does not want to hear. One can just imagine how dreadful the prospect would have been for a Messenger, who is not a welcome guest in the presence of a tyrant.  But Allah so Merciful, inspired in Musa(as) this dua to give him the strength, confidence and the eloquence he needed to face the task in front of him.

So, next time you feel that someone is like a mountain that could come crashing down on you when you are in their presence or if you need the strength, the confidence and eloquence to put your thoughts across to people, use this dua, it worked wonders for Musa(as).  By the permission and Mercy of Allah, so will it for you and me.

Isn’t the Quran a living book?

Isn’t Islam so beautiful?

Isn’t Allah so Merciful?

Aren’t we so fortunate to be Muslims?

Alhmadulillah!

Dhul Nun: Repenting to Allah

Repentance of Dhul Nun

A very potent dua from the story of Prophet Yunus (as) also known as Dhul Nun. He was swallowed by a whale as a result of his disobedience to Allah(swt). But Allah so Merciful inspired him to make this dua and he was delivered from the belly of the whale. The moral of the story is, Allah(swt) is ever so Merciful to his creations that he will forgive again and again no matter our wrongs and disobedience as long as we continually seek His forgiveness and repent from our wrong doings.

Zakarriyah: Prayer for a good offspring

Being a Muslim for me is a blessing unimaginable. I love the fact that I was born and raised a Muslim and I have always been a Muslim without the burden of having to rationalise why I must be a Muslim. At the same time I am grateful that Allah(swt) has given me the understanding of the deen in a natural way so I do not have to question everything in relations to my deen because I just know that is right or this is wrong according to my fitra or natural inclination.

When there is a long wait for my expectations from Allah to be fulfilled, I never feel that it is wrong that my expectations are taking long or perhaps I may never get my expectations fulfilled. In this respect we can take a leaf from the story of Prophet Zakarriyah (as), who waited many years to have his dream of a child to inherit him. He was old and grey without a child with a wife who already passed the child-bearing age, yet he never gave up on his expectations from Allah. He continuously prayed till Allah(swt) answered his prayer and bestow upon him Yahyah (as) who was a Prophet too. Zakarriya (as) was not only blessed with a child of his own, he was also bestowed the guardianship of Mary, the Mother of Isa(as).

Allah(swt) test the ones he loves, and we can take a leaf from the lives of the Prophets how they lived their test and continue to earn the favour of Allah(swt) even after they are already long gone. Ibrahim (as), the friend of Allah was also tested with a long wait before he was bestowed with a child and our prophet Muhammed (saw) though blessed with children, he had to bury all his male children, a calamity for any parent. Yet, they all lived their test as devoted servants of Allah, praying continuously for relief from Allah and firmness is their faith till their prayers and yearning were fulfilled.

This dua of Zakarriyah, though short, is filled with all his yearnings, expectations, trust and devotions to Allah. Even if we are already blessed with children, continuously repeating this dua is a blessing on its own, for ourselves, the children we already have and the ones to come.

Alhamdulillah in all situations

All praise belong to Allah the Lord of the worlds.

The One without Whom nothing is possible.

Alhamdulillah to the One Who created me and mould me into what I am today.

Alhamdulillah from the beginning to the end.

Alhamdulillah in good times when I have all I can ever ask for.

Alhamdulillah in bad times when I feel constricted from all sides.

Alhamdulillah for when I cried my eyes out wishing I was never born.

Alhamdulillah for when I laughed till my ribs cracked of too much laughter.

Alhamdulillah when I smiled absent-mindedly to myself because I feel so good inside.

Alhamdulillah when my face look so darkened with grief that people around me wondered what calamity has befallen me.

Alhamdulillah that I have my share of good and bad.

Just as many creations of Allah including the elite among the Prophets and Messengers.

Alhamdulillah for everything in all situations.

Raging

Oh, this Ninjabi woman can work Linux?!

So you can do it,  Lets see,  here you go.

Ibrahim: Invocation from being a trial for Kaafirun

Allah(swt) told the story of Ibrahim, the trials he faced with his people and how he responded to those trials along with the dua he made asking from Allah.  Admonitions to follow his example in this, is very clear from the following surah.

“Certainly, there has been in them an excellent example for you to follow, for those who look forward to (the Meeting with) Allah (for the reward from Him) and the Last Day. And whosoever turn away, then verily, Allah is Rich (Free of all wants), Worthy of all Praise”. (Al-Mumtahinah – Quran60:6)

Memorising and reciting this dua repeatedly in this Ramadan and especially in the atmosphere we are currently experiencing as Muslims all over the world.

Ibrahim(as) is an excellent example for those who truly believe and he earned his reputation by his firm belief in Allah, followed with decisive actions, which made him a beloved of Allah.  He made this dua along with those with him, facing trials of unbelief from his people.
